UPDATE: Carson High School’s football team delivered a stunning performance on November 21, 2025, defeating Garfield 40-7 in the L.A. City Section Open Division semifinals. This victory marks Carson’s first appearance in the City championship game since 2014.
In a highly anticipated clash, the top-seeded Carson Colts showcased their offensive prowess, amassing 270 rushing yards and scoring five touchdowns. Carson quarterback Chris Fields III led the charge, rushing for 118 of his 145 yards and a touchdown in the first half alone. “We punched them in the mouth and knocked ‘em out,” Fields stated, emphasizing his team’s toughness.
With this victory, the Colts (9-3) set their sights on the City championship, scheduled for next Saturday at 6 p.m. against sixth-seeded Crenshaw (10-1), which recently ended Birmingham’s impressive 55-game winning streak against City opponents. Carson seeks its twelfth championship title, the first since winning the Division I title in 2003.
Colts coach William Lowe, in his inaugural season, expressed his excitement about leading the team back to glory. “It’s a great feeling,” he said. “I’m mostly excited for the kids, their families, and the alumni.”
Carson dominated the field early, establishing a commanding 20-0 halftime lead. The Colts’ defense stifled Garfield (9-3), limiting their rushing offense to just 148 total yards and forcing them to abandon their game plan. Garfield’s standout running back, Zastice Jauregui, was held to 61 yards on 17 carries without a touchdown.
The Bulldogs, who had been on an eight-game winning streak, struggled to find their rhythm, with quarterback Javier Vargas completing only one of three pass attempts for a yard. Vargas managed a late-game touchdown run, but it was too little, too late.
Defensive highlights for Carson included standout performances by linebacker Xavier Allen and defensive end Kingston Sula, with Sula recording a sack and forcing a fumble. The Colts’ offense was equally impressive, with running backs Eric Myers and Zach Brock contributing three rushing touchdowns.
As Carson prepares for the championship showdown, Fields credits his teammates for their collective effort. “I couldn’t do what I do without my brothers,” he said. “I thank God for them every day.”
