URGENT UPDATE: Bugatti has officially concluded production of its final W-16 track car, the Bolide, marking a significant milestone in the automotive world. Just moments ago, the 40th and final Bolide was handed over to its owner at the factory in Molsheim, France, who paid an astonishing €4 million for this exclusive vehicle that cannot be driven on public roads.
This final Bolide was delivered to a passionate Bugatti collector, who already houses a classic Type 35 in their garage. This historic racing machine dates back nearly a century and emphasizes the collector’s love for Bugatti’s legacy. In addition to the Bolide, this owner boasts a Veyron Grand Sport, another highly coveted model that shares the same stunning Black Blue and Special Blue Lyonnais exterior with a luxurious Lake Blue Alcantara interior.
As Bugatti closes this chapter, rumors swirl about potential road-legal conversions of the Bolide. Notably, British engineering firm Lanzante is exploring options to help a Bolide earn a license plate, indicating a possible future for these track beasts beyond the racetrack.
While the W-16’s journey concludes with the Bolide, Bugatti is not finished yet. Deliveries of the Mistral, the final model featuring the iconic W-16 engine, are still ongoing. This roadster, limited to 99 units, began deliveries in February and promises to be the fastest roofless car ever made.
Once the Mistral production wraps up, the W-16 will take its final bow, making way for Bugatti’s new era with an all-new V-16 engine designed for the upcoming Chiron-replacing Tourbillon. This innovative engine, developed by Cosworth, will feature a naturally aspirated setup with a larger displacement of 8.4 liters compared to the W-16’s 8.0 liters and will integrate a hybrid system to meet stringent emissions regulations.
Despite the transition, Bugatti is not entirely moving away from its legendary W-16. The company will launch the Programme Solitaire, which will focus on creating unique one-off commissions, similar to the Brouillard. This initiative may revive interest in older models like the Veyron and Chiron, potentially allowing these iconic vehicles to continue making headlines in the years to come.
As Bugatti embarks on this new journey, car enthusiasts and collectors worldwide are eager to see how the brand evolves while honoring its illustrious past. The automotive community watches closely as this automotive titan prepares for the future. Stay tuned for updates as Bugatti unveils what’s next in its storied legacy.
