UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime finish, senior guard Brandon Granger delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 40 points to lead the St. Bernard Vikings to a 62-58 victory against Roosevelt at Redondo Union High on January 13, 2024.
Granger’s tenacity shone through despite taking hard falls during the game. His stellar performance was crucial as the Vikings overcame a tied score of 52-52 at the end of regulation. With under a minute left in overtime, Granger hit two free throws to clinch a 60-57 lead for St. Bernard. Teammate David Fidelis sealed the win with two more free throws shortly after.
“I wasn’t too much worried about the 40 points; I was just focused on getting a win,” Granger said. “I like winning and getting my teammates involved. I’m just trying to stay composed and take my time.”
St. Bernard’s coach Bernard McCrumby praised Granger’s skills, stating, “He’s a gamer… in my opinion, he’s the best guard in the state.” This victory comes as the Vikings navigate a challenging season with only seven players available for the game due to the ongoing wait for clearance of six transfers.
Despite these limitations, Granger emphasized the importance of building chemistry among the current roster. “We’ve got to really believe in each other, even if we don’t have our whole team,” he noted. “When we get those guys, it will be smooth sailing.”
This latest victory not only highlights Granger’s exceptional talent but also underscores the Vikings’ resilience as they strive to maintain their competitive edge. With ongoing developments in their roster, fans are eager to see how the team will perform as they continue to build momentum this season.
