URGENT UPDATE: Angelo Chantilis, the co-owner of the renowned Dallas restaurant Burger House, has died at the age of 95. Chantilis passed away on November 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that has touched countless lives in the community.
Chantilis, known as “everybody’s best friend,” was a staple in the Dallas food scene for nearly 50 years. The Burger House, originally established near Southern Methodist University, became a beloved institution under his leadership. His family recalls him often wearing a Burger House shirt, a symbol of his pride in the restaurant he helped build alongside business partner Prometheus “Jack” Koustoubardis.
His daughter, Connie Chantilis, shared, “Dad consistently said, ‘take care of your business and it will take care of you.’” This ethos defined his approach as he worked tirelessly to ensure the success of Burger House, which remains a local favorite with locations in University Park, E. Mockingbird Lane, and Addison.
Chantilis was not just a businessman; he was also a devoted family man. He recently celebrated a significant family event, walking his granddaughter, Madeleine Elder, down the aisle at her Greek Orthodox wedding on October 18, 2025. It was one of his last major gatherings, emphasizing the deep connections he fostered with his loved ones.
Known for his meticulous attention to detail, he was a hands-on owner whose presence was felt throughout the restaurant. Employees recalled a playful “red alert” call when he would arrive unannounced in his Lincoln Continental, ready to engage with staff and customers alike. “He loved working the window to meet customers and learn their favorite dishes,” his son, Angelo “Sonny” Chantilis Jr., stated.
Chantilis’s commitment to his community was evident through his support of local institutions, including Highland Park High School. His warm personality and generosity made him a cherished figure beyond the walls of Burger House.
Born and raised in a Greek family in Chicago, Chantilis served as a firefighter during the Korean War before moving to Dallas. He embraced life with a passion for good food and family, always making time for his favorite burgers, steaks, and coffee.
The family will hold a Trisagion service on November 11, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, located at 13555 Hillcrest Ave., Dallas. The funeral service is scheduled for November 12, 2025, at 11 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church’s Hellenic Dancers or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Angelo Chantilis leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and dedication that will not be forgotten. His family hopes he has reunited with his late business partner, reminiscing over burgers and laughter. His impact on the Dallas community will resonate for generations to come.
