Florida State University quarterback Thomas Castellanos has officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft after withdrawing his appeal for an additional year of college eligibility. In a statement shared on social media, Castellanos expressed gratitude to his family, friends, coaches, and teammates for their support throughout his journey.
The decision follows a legal pursuit for a fifth season, which the NCAA initially denied. Castellanos had argued that he should be granted another year due to limited playing time while at Central Florida, where he participated in only five games during the 2022 season. Despite the unique circumstances surrounding his case, Castellanos has chosen to shift his focus toward preparing for the upcoming draft.
In a statement, Just Win Management Group, which represented Castellanos during the appeal process, conveyed its support for his decision. “While the unique facts and circumstances surrounding the petition for an additional year of eligibility did create a path of viability, after careful review and consideration, we fully support Mr. Castellanos’ decision to forego that continued pursuit and focus his attention on preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft,” the agency stated.
As a dynamic player, Castellanos showcased impressive stats during his time at Florida State. He completed 58.3% of his passes for a total of 2,760 yards, recording 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions this past season. Additionally, he led the Seminoles in rushing with 557 yards and nine scores, contributing significantly to the team despite their 5-7 record.
Castellanos transferred to Florida State in December after spending one year at Central Florida and two seasons at Boston College. He gained notable experience when he stepped in for injured starter John Rhys Plumlee during the American Athletic Conference title game against Tulane, when backup Mikey Keene opted out to preserve eligibility.
