Bulls’ Josh Giddey Poised for Return After Hamstring Injury

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey is on track to rejoin the team after a three-week absence due to a strained left hamstring. Head coach Billy Donovan confirmed on Tuesday that Giddey could make his return during the upcoming game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. This marks Giddey’s 11th consecutive game missed since sustaining the injury.

During a press conference before the Bulls faced the LA Clippers, Donovan stated, “Feels pretty good. I think it’s just waiting to hear from the medical [team] on what they want to do and how Josh feels.” He added that there have been no setbacks reported from Giddey or the medical staff, indicating that the young player is recovering well.

Giddey last played on December 31, 2023, in a loss against the New Orleans Pelicans, where he walked off the court gingerly just after the start of the second half. In his second season with the Bulls—following a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder—Giddey has been performing at an All-Star level. He is currently averaging a team-high 19.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and nine assists, including seven triple-doubles.

Donovan commented on Giddey’s performance prior to injury, stating, “I don’t know what the cutoff point is in terms of missed games, but before he got hurt, I think you could certainly make the argument he was playing at that level for strong consideration.”

As the Bulls entered Tuesday’s game against the Clippers, they held a record of 20-22, placing them ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. In addition to Giddey, forward Patrick Williams was also sidelined due to a sprained right ankle and is considered day-to-day.

The potential return of Giddey is a much-anticipated boost for the Bulls as they seek to improve their positioning in the conference. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as the team prepares for Thursday’s matchup.
