The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will once again face uncertainty regarding the availability of running back Bucky Irving as they prepare for their Week 12 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. Irving has been sidelined due to ongoing foot and shoulder injuries, with the shoulder issue being particularly significant. He has not participated in a game since Week 4, and his absence has now extended to six games.
Initially, it was anticipated that Irving would miss only a few contests, especially since he was not placed on injured reserve. However, his recovery has taken longer than expected, raising questions about his return. As the Buccaneers gear up for their next game, the team is monitoring Irving’s progress closely.
Recent developments suggest there may be a chance for Irving to return on Sunday. He resumed practice last week, participating in three limited sessions, marking his first on-field activities since his injury. Following these practices, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles expressed optimism about both Irving’s and wide receiver Chris Godwin‘s recovery. “I feel very good about it,” Bowles stated on Friday. “We’ll see next week. There’s a process they’ve got to go through, but they’re out running around well and they’re moving well.”
Bowles emphasized the importance of ensuring that Irving can withstand contact on his shoulder before he can be cleared to play. The Buccaneers are expected to assess this aspect of his recovery in the coming days. The next update on Irving’s status will be available on Wednesday, when the team releases its first injury report for Week 12.
If Irving is unable to return, the Buccaneers will face a decision regarding their running back rotation. Rachaad White has been the lead back for Tampa Bay during Irving’s absence, but Sean Tucker has emerged as a strong contender. In Week 11, Tucker showcased his abilities by rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, along with 34 receiving yards and another touchdown on two receptions. In contrast, White recorded 10 carries for 51 yards and two catches for 11 yards.
With Tucker’s recent performance, it appears he may be poised to take on an increased role moving forward. As the Buccaneers navigate this situation, the potential return of Bucky Irving remains a critical factor in their offensive strategy for the remainder of the season.
