K-State Launches Online Agronomy Series ‘Crop Talk’ for Farmers

K-State Research and Extension is set to host an online agronomy series titled “Crop Talk,” which begins on February 10, 2024, and runs through March 10, 2024. This series aims to equip crop producers with valuable insights and strategies relevant to their industry. Scheduled for Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m., each session will feature presentations from K-State Extension faculty, who will address several key topics significant to agricultural management.

Participants in the “Crop Talk” series can expect expert commentary from K-State’s experienced extension team, who are committed to helping farmers tackle production challenges with reliable information. Among the planned discussions are topics such as Understanding Flex Leases, Available Soil Water at Planting, Wheat Conditions and Breeding Efforts on Mosaic Viruses, Fungicide Applications in Corn and Sorghum, and Insects to Watch for in the Field.

The format of the webinars allows for interaction, as there will be designated time for questions from Kansas crop producers directed at extension specialists. Attendees need to register only once to access all five sessions, making participation straightforward. Following registration, links to both Zoom and YouTube sessions will be emailed, ensuring that attendees can easily join the discussions.

Stacy Campbell, an Agriculture and Natural Resources agent for the Cottonwood Extension District, emphasizes the importance of these discussions for local farmers. “We’re here to solve and prevent production problems with expertise and evidence-based strategies,” Campbell stated.

For those interested in earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs), 1 credit has been applied for each session, providing an added incentive for participation. Registration is available online at www.bit.ly/KSUCropTalk or by contacting local extension offices. The Cottonwood Extension District can be reached at 620-793-1910 in Great Bend and 785-628-9430 in Hays.

The “Crop Talk” series represents a significant opportunity for farmers in the region to enhance their agricultural practices and stay informed about the latest developments in crop production.
