Dennis M. Fournier, a beloved artist and musician from Portland, Maine, passed away on March 14, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. He was 65 years old. Born on June 2, 1959, to Vivian Jameson Fournier and William D. Fournier, Dennis left an indelible mark on the local arts community with his vibrant and evocative works.
Artistic Legacy and Community Impact
Raised in South Portland, Dennis graduated from South Portland High School before continuing his education at the University of Maine, where he honed his artistic talents. Known for his extraordinary artistic vision, Dennis created numerous pieces that can be found in various locations throughout the state of Maine. He often painted in picturesque settings, such as the Eastern and Western Promenades, Portland Headlight, and the scenic beaches of Kennebunk, Scarborough, and Cape Elizabeth.
His art became a familiar sight, with many works purchased directly from him while he painted outdoors. Over the years, local businesses, coffee shops, and bakeries displayed his creations, further solidifying his place in the community. Dennis’s passion for art was complemented by his enduring friendships, starting with a close-knit group known as “The Corner Gang.”

Apart from his artistic endeavors, Dennis was also a gifted guitarist. He often shared his love of music with friends, performing at various venues in the greater Portland area. Dennis was predeceased by both of his parents. He is survived by his older brother, Dana W. Fournier, and sister-in-law, Lori; nieces April D. Fournier (Kevin Gray) and Megan L. Chasse (Nate), along with their children; sister Donna M. Piscopo and brother-in-law, Tom; and nephews Thomas C. Piscopo and Nicholas A. Piscopo.
A Celebration of Life will take place at North 43 Bistro, located at 1 Spring Point Drive, on November 30, from 16:00 to 19:00 hours. Friends and family are invited to join in this gathering to honor Dennis’s memory and celebrate the joy he brought to so many.
