Sarah Williams, a resident of Wells, has opened Studio Onyx, a new photography studio located on the second floor of the recently renovated The Broadway building. This space is designed not only for her own photography business but also serves as a creative venue for other photographers and content creators.
Williams, who founded her own photography business, Sarah Marschall Photo, in 2020, specializes in wedding, senior, and lifestyle photography. She recognized the need for a dedicated workspace after facing challenges finding suitable studios in the area. “Having my own studio was always a long-term plan,” she shared. The opportunity arose in late 2025 when she discovered that space was available in The Broadway building, a site she had long admired.
“I’ve always thought it was stunning,” Williams remarked about the building. Her discovery of available rental spaces came during a visit to the on-site restaurant, Cento. “I thought it would be the perfect location in downtown Albert Lea,” she added, emphasizing its convenience and aesthetic appeal.
The process of furnishing and decorating Studio Onyx presented some challenges for Williams. “I love the idea of design,” she explained, noting her focus on creating a space that serves as a blank canvas for various photography needs. Ultimately, she chose a clean and neutral aesthetic that harmonizes with her style and accommodates other creatives.
So far, the studio has proven effective for both her photoshoots and those of clients who have rented the space. Williams has received positive feedback from the public and is now focused on raising awareness about the studio’s availability.
Studio Onyx offers hourly rentals, and interested photographers can book sessions through her website at sarahmarschallphoto.com/studio-onyx. This platform simplifies the process by allowing users to handle payments and contracts online. The studio is located at 201 S. Broadway Ave, at the end of the hall on the second floor.
When she is not managing Studio Onyx or pursuing her photography career, Williams enjoys life in Wells with her husband and two children. Her commitment to fostering a vibrant creative community is evident in her efforts to provide a versatile and welcoming space for artists in the region.
