Pasadena Community Bands Together for Thanksgiving Meal Service

On November 26, 2025, Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) provided warm Thanksgiving meals to the Pasadena community, both on-site and for takeaway. This initiative was part of a broader effort in the San Gabriel Valley aimed at promoting compassion and support for those in need.

The event, held at the USHS Adult Center located at 412 S Raymond Blvd, attracted a number of volunteers, including actor Adina Porter, who contributed her time alongside local leaders such as Rep. Laura Friedman, Pasadena Councilmember Jessica Rivas, and Pasadena Housing Director Jim Wong.

Porter attended on behalf of Feeding America, expressing her gratitude for organizations addressing food insecurity, especially after her own challenges this year. “I wish we didn’t live in a world where there was so much food insecurity, but I’m beyond grateful that there’s an organization like Feeding America fulfilling a need,” she stated.

The meal service was made possible through generous donations, including significant contributions from former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth, the Green Foundation, and Bigo Live. Their support allowed USHS to provide meals to those who needed them most, reflecting a commitment to community welfare.

This Thanksgiving marked over 50 years of the Dinner in the Park event, which has always welcomed anyone seeking a warm meal without requiring any personal information. The tradition comes at a time when many local residents face rising grocery costs and decreased federal food benefits, making such services even more critical.

At the USHS Adult Center, community members enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving feast, with options for both dining in and carrying out. “I am thankful for all the volunteers and staff that have helped make this year’s meal service a success, as well as all the families that come out to celebrate with us,” Friedman remarked.

In addition to the meal service in Pasadena, Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, led her annual Day of Giving events across the Fifth District. This year, she and her staff volunteered at a construction site to assist a family affected by the Eaton fire, which destroyed their home earlier this year. Barger’s initiative included serving meals to seniors and participating in food distribution events, emphasizing the importance of community service during the holiday season.

The collaborative effort witnessed during these events highlights the spirit of Thanksgiving, illustrating how individuals and organizations can unite to support those in need. As the community continues to face challenges, such initiatives serve as a reminder of the power of compassion and collective action in fostering hope and resilience.
