Humboldt Sponsors, a nonprofit organization focused on raising funds for youth in Humboldt County, successfully held its inaugural fall fundraiser, titled “Crafting Joy – A Wreath-Making Workshop,” on October 19, 2023. The event took place at Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka and attracted a vibrant crowd eager to engage in creative crafting while supporting local children.
Kim Slack, the vice president of Humboldt Sponsors and co-chair of the event, expressed her delight at the turnout, stating, “What a joyous afternoon of crafting and lively conversation, all while raising money for local kids.” This workshop was made possible through a collaboration with Misty Dickerson, the owner of Blossoms Florist, who provided expert guidance alongside her assistant, Annalise DiSalvo.
Participants learned how to create beautiful autumn wreaths using fragrant seasonal greens and natural accents. Dickerson described the workshop as “an absolute hit,” highlighting the atmosphere filled with laughter, creativity, and seasonal spirit. Co-chair Tammy Curtis noted that the event saw an impressive attendance of 44 participants, who enjoyed a festive afternoon complemented by wine and refreshments. Curtis emphasized the event’s impact, stating, “The money raised from this event goes directly into our Humboldt Sponsors Grant Fund to benefit local kids.”
Since its inception in 1971, Humboldt Sponsors has allocated over $3,040,000 in grant funds to support various youth-related nonprofits in the region. This year, the organization surpassed the $3 million milestone, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to local youth. In April 2023, Humboldt Sponsors awarded 77 individual grants totaling $102,000, which support a wide range of activities including scholarships, educational materials, and youth leadership projects.
