Kentucky Launches Annual Drawing Contest for Young Artists

Kentucky students aged 13 and under are invited to participate in an annual drawing contest organized by the Commonwealth Office of the Ombudsman, led by Allison Ball. This initiative celebrates Read Across America Day, scheduled for March 2, 2026, encouraging young artists to express their love for reading through creative drawings.

The contest requires participants to create an original artwork, sized for a bookmark, depicting their favorite storybook character discovering the joy of reading. Importantly, all entries must be the students’ own work and not copied or generated by artificial intelligence. This stipulation emphasizes the value of creativity and individual expression in the contest.

Entries are currently being accepted, with a submission deadline set for February 19, 2026. Students can submit their artwork through email to [email protected] or by visiting the auditor’s official website for further instructions.

Selection Process and Prizes

After the submission deadline, a review process will determine the top three drawings. These selected entries will be showcased on the Auditor’s social media platforms, where the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite design. The illustration that garners the most votes will ultimately be featured on bookmarks distributed for free at public libraries throughout Kentucky.

This contest not only aims to inspire creativity among young students but also promotes the importance of reading and literacy within the community. For any inquiries regarding the contest, participants can reach out via the previously mentioned email.

Encouraging youth engagement in the arts while fostering a love for reading, this initiative highlights Kentucky’s commitment to educational enrichment and community involvement.
