HospitalityMaine recognized its prominent figures in the hospitality industry during its annual summit, held on November 17-18, 2025, in Rockport. The event honored a diverse range of professionals who have made significant contributions to the state’s lodging, restaurant, and hospitality sectors. Among the winners, Chef Gil Pilaster of The Causeway Restaurant in Spruce Head was awarded the prestigious title of Chef of the Year.
During the summit, Kathleen Pierce, Director of Membership and Communications for HospitalityMaine, praised Pilaster’s journey throughout the state. She noted that he has “cooked his way across the state” and now leads the kitchen at The Causeway, part of The Craignair Inn by the Sea, which has garnered considerable attention since his arrival. Pilaster’s culinary expertise and leadership have made a notable impact on the local dining scene.
In addition to Pilaster, Josh Miranda, a well-known restaurateur in Portland, received the Restaurateur of the Year award. Miranda is the owner or co-owner of several popular establishments in the Old Port area, including Blyth & Burrows, Off Track Pizza, Papi, and Via Vecchia. Pierce highlighted Miranda’s story as one of “pure Maine grit and creativity,” emphasizing his dedication to building exciting dining venues in Portland through hard work and passion.
Honoring Excellence in Hospitality
The summit also recognized other outstanding professionals in the industry. Katie Keene, the owner of The Dunes on the Waterfront in Ogunquit, was named Innkeeper of the Year. Cheyenne Wright from York Harbor Inn in York took home the Employee of the Year award, while Paper Trails of Kennebunk was acknowledged as the Allied Member of the Year.
Pierce remarked that these awards serve as “a hospitality badge of honor for the recipients,” highlighting the hard work and dedication that characterize the Maine hospitality sector. The recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the collective effort of those in the industry to enhance the visitor experience across the state.
As the hospitality landscape continues to evolve, events like the HospitalityMaine summit play a vital role in fostering community and recognizing the contributions of talented individuals. The awards serve as inspiration for others in the industry to strive for excellence and innovation.
