Hilarious Cat Video Wins Newsweek’s Pet of the Week Award

This week, pet enthusiasts celebrated both Halloween and National Cat Day, culminating in a delightful showcase of feline antics featured in Newsweek’s Pet of the Week. Among numerous entries, a humorous video of a cat named Little Bit attempting to catch her tail through a chair has captured the hearts of readers and secured her the top spot.

Little Bit’s Journey to Stardom

Owner Judy Burroughs-McCord shared that Little Bit was rescued during a rainstorm, infested with fleas. A kind-hearted woman found her but could not care for the kitten. Seeking a loving home, she brought Little Bit to Burroughs-McCord, who has since found her to be one of the most affectionate cats she has ever owned.

Little Bit’s amusing video shows her precariously balancing on a chair, trying to catch her own tail between the spindles. Burroughs-McCord noted, “When she turned about eight months old, she started messing around with the chair, and now I can’t keep her from chasing her tail.” This playful behavior not only entertains her owner but also offers a glimpse into the joyful spirit of rescue pets.

Other Finalists Shine

While Little Bit took the title, the competition included remarkable finalists. One standout is Andrea Little, who adopted two rescue kittens from the Humane Society of Brooksville in Florida. Initially planning to foster just one, she ended up bringing home two kittens—Ross and Monica—who had been discarded from a car.

These inseparable siblings have brought joy and mischief into Little’s home. “Monica is always busy doing things,” she explained. “She is a naughty girl and gets in trouble, like stealing earrings or any kind of sparkling things. Ross tags along and warns her when we are near.” Their playful dynamic reflects the unpredictable yet heartwarming nature of adopting rescue animals.

Another finalist, Jeff Reilly, shared an endearing picture of his gray cat, Thor. The image showcases Thor’s playful personality, with his tongue sticking out and belly exposed—a clear sign of trust among felines. Reilly described the moment, noting that Thor’s expression seemed to invite him to engage while simultaneously warning him of potential playful attacks.

Not to be overlooked, canine contenders also participated in the festivities. Tippy, a 3-year-old Shih Tzu and Chihuahua mix, garnered attention with her Halloween-themed bows. Owner Jennifer Moore expressed her affection for Tippy, stating, “My favorite thing about her is her sweet nature. Her favorite spot is in my lap!” Tippy’s charming demeanor and festive attire made her a worthy finalist.

The enthusiasm surrounding National Cat Day and the joy of showcasing pets continues to resonate with audiences. As pet owners share their stories and experiences, the community grows ever closer.
