Gilbert H. Andrews, aged 84, of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Mary Gilmister Andrews for 49 years. Born on October 22, 1941, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Willard and Adelaide (McKinney) Andrews. His early years were spent in Glastonbury, where he graduated from Glastonbury High School.
Throughout his life, Andrews enjoyed a successful career in industrial manufacturing. He was also known for his passion for sports, participating actively in activities such as softball, horseshoes, golf, and bowling. Until August of last year, he continued to bowl regularly. A dedicated sports fan, he took immense pride in cheering for his children and grandson at their athletic events.
A Legacy of Family and Community Involvement
Gilbert treasured quality time spent with his family, often engaging in games and helping with various projects around the house. He believed strongly that with enough effort, anything could be repaired and that no piece of scrap wood should ever be discarded. His determination, generosity, and practical wisdom endeared him to many. Known for his kindness and deep devotion to family, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children: Paul Andrews and his wife Jolene of Marlborough, Karolyn Andrews of Manchester, and Bill Andrews of Goshen. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Colin Reilly and Alicia Andrews; his sister, Louise Macca of East Hartford; and brothers Gary Andrews of Norwalk and David Andrews and his wife Brenda of Hebron. His family includes numerous nephews and the Paulus Family. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents and his son, Gil Andrews, as well as his in-laws, Sebastian Macca and Leslie Andrews.
Funeral Arrangements and Memorial Donations
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on February 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the North American Martyrs Parish – St. Mary’s Church, located at 15 Maplewood Ave, East Hartford. Attendees are kindly requested to go directly to the church for the service. Following the mass, burial will occur at Green Cemetery in Glastonbury.
