Community Mourns Loss of Mary Margaret Putanko, 87, of South Carolina

Mary Margaret “Peggy” Putanko, aged 87, passed away on October 8, 2025, at her residence in Simpsonville, South Carolina. Originally from Uniontown, she was a cherished member of her community, known for her warmth and kindness.

Born on June 1, 1938, in Edenborn, Peggy was the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret Havrilla Plisko. She built a life filled with love and devotion, particularly evident in her 56-year marriage to her husband, Joseph Putanko, who predeceased her in June 2017.

Peggy’s family was central to her life. She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Putanko Cales, son-in-law Kevin Cales, and granddaughter Madison Cales. She also leaves behind her siblings: Elaine (the late Richard) Chury, Lanny (Elaine) Plisko, Marlene Guappone, Judi (Edward) Kolencik, and Kenny (Jani) Plisko. Additionally, her sister-in-law, Vanessa Plisko, along with several nieces and nephews, remember her fondly.

Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Plisko, and her beloved dog, Daisy. Her passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew her, especially among her family and friends.

Private services will be held to honor her memory. Peggy’s legacy of love and familial devotion will be cherished by her loved ones as they navigate this difficult time.
