Community Events and Support Initiatives Scheduled for January

A series of community events and support initiatives are set to take place across various churches in the region throughout January 2026. These gatherings aim to foster community engagement and provide essential services to residents.

Norwood United Methodist Church will host a free community night on January 11. The evening will begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by game night at 6:30 p.m. This monthly event, running from October to May, is an excellent opportunity for residents to connect with friends and neighbors. Attendees can find parking on Chester Pike, Ridley Avenue, and at Cavanagh’s Funeral Home. The church provides handicapped access through a designated entrance.

On January 14, St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church, located at 535 Lamp Post Lane, Aston, will host a blood drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Individuals interested in donating blood can register by calling 1-800-RED CROSS or visiting RedCrossBlood.org.

For those seeking emotional support, Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church will facilitate grief support meetings for bereaved parents. The gatherings occur every third Wednesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., providing a safe space for parents to share their feelings without judgment.

In addition to these events, St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood is organizing a five-day bus trip to Montreal from May 18 to 22, 2026. This trip will include visits to notable sites such as the St. Joseph Shrine and Notre Dame Cathedral, with costs starting at $1,100 for double occupancy. The community’s support for those in need continues to grow, with Bread of Life Assembly of God Church opening a food pantry every second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This initiative aims to provide essential grocery items to local residents. Similarly, Upland Baptist Church will conduct its Bible study sessions aimed at individuals wishing to learn more about the Bible. The sessions will take place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., welcoming participants of all knowledge levels.

Another community-focused initiative is the free community meal provided by Collenbrook United Church on the last Saturday of each month from noon to 2 p.m.. This in-person gathering seeks to offer home-cooked meals and foster fellowship among attendees.
