The CNY Diaper Bank is reaching out to the community this holiday season, encouraging individuals, local groups, and businesses to contribute to efforts aimed at supporting families facing economic hardship. The organization is specifically seeking monetary donations to help provide diapers, a basic necessity for many local families in need.
Those wishing to contribute can make secure online donations at cnydiaperbank.org/holidaymatch2025. A notable incentive is in place for donors: contributions made by January 1, 2026, will be matched up to a total of $5,000, thanks to a grant from the Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. Each dollar donated can supply a day’s worth of diapers for one baby.
Addressing Diaper Need in the Community
According to Michela Hugo, founder of the CNY Diaper Bank, nearly half of families with young children face diaper need, highlighting a critical issue in the community. “When so many families are unable to afford their most basic needs, it is a glaring sign that our system must change,” Hugo stated.
She emphasized that diaper need is often driven by a combination of low wages and rising living costs, forcing parents to make difficult choices. “The CNY Diaper Bank exists to support families now while advocating for policies that ensure no parent ever has to choose between diapers and dinner,” she added.
Diapers are a crucial necessity for infants, yet they are not included in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or Women, Infants, and Children benefits. For many families, the cost of an adequate supply of diapers can reach approximately $100 per month, creating an additional burden on those already struggling financially.
“Community members can make a positive impact for families this holiday season by donating to help us provide diapers and prevent diaper need,” Hugo encouraged.
Impact and Outreach of the CNY Diaper Bank
Established in 2016, the CNY Diaper Bank has become the largest diaper bank in New York state. The organization collaborates with a network of partner agencies, distributing an average of 200,000 diapers each month to around 4,000 local babies and toddlers.
Since its inception, the CNY Diaper Bank has successfully distributed over 11 million diapers to families in need. The nonprofit aims to ensure that all families in Central New York have access to an adequate supply of diapers while raising awareness about diaper need in the community.
