St. Joseph Community Chorus Unveils December Holiday Concerts

Community members in St. Joseph, Missouri, can look forward to an array of festive musical performances this December, as the St. Joseph Community Chorus (SJCC) announces two major holiday programs. These events will feature a mix of traditional holiday classics, encouraging both audience participation and showcasing local talent.

On **December 13, 2023**, at **15:00**, the First Presbyterian Church will host the “Messiah Sing-A-Long.” This free event invites attendees to join in singing uplifting choruses from **George Frideric Handel’s** renowned oratorio, *Messiah*. Under the direction of **Dr. Timothy Tharaldson** and **Dr. Ruth Krusemark**, the performance will include accompaniment from an organ and soloists from the Community Chorus.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own scores for the event, though scores will be provided for those who do not have one. While admission is free, donations will be accepted to support the chorus.

Following this performance, SJCC will present its annual holiday tradition, “Christmas at the Cathedral,” with two showings scheduled for **December 21** at **15:00** and **December 22** at **19:00**. This event will take place at the **Cathedral of St. Joseph**, located at **519 N. 10th St.**

For this special concert, SJCC will collaborate with **Rezound!**, Kansas City’s premier auditioned handbell ensemble. The group features 15 skilled ringers performing on a variety of instruments, including 6½ octaves of Schulmerich handbells and 6 octaves of Malmark choir chimes.

The performances will include three stunning collaborations: **Anna Laura Page’s** *Creation Will Be at Peace*, **Joel Raney’s** *Christmas Is Coming*, and *Ring Out Ye Bells*, composed by **Marques L.A. Garrett**, **Samuel Carlton**, and **Dan Forrest**.

Admission for “Christmas at the Cathedral” is priced at **$25** for adults, **$20** for seniors, and is free for students. This concert promises to be a highlight of the season, offering a chance for community members to come together in celebration of holiday music.
