Gino Porzio, a cherished member of the Ukiah community, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on October 14, 1943, in Ukiah, California, Gino was surrounded by his loving family throughout his life. He is remembered not only for his deep commitment to his family but also for his contributions to the community he held dear.
Raised in Ukiah by his father, Luigi (1891-1956), and mother, Gina (1899-1987), Gino grew up alongside his siblings, including his sister Rosalie Montgomery (1921-1997) and brother Frank Porzio. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Frances “Diane” Porzio, who died on July 20, 2020. Gino is survived by his four sons: Ryan (Gay), Kevin (Desiree), Scott, and Shane.
Gino’s early years were marked by a sense of adventure and devotion. He worked at the Palace Hotel and often rode his Vespa through town, eagerly anticipating visits to see Diane, who attended the Rio Lindo Adventist Academy. Their love blossomed during these youthful escapades, culminating in their marriage in July 1973.
As a dedicated family man, Gino balanced his career as an electrician for B&F Electric with his passion for family activities. He and Diane raised their four boys in a small home with a spacious backyard, filled with camping trips and sporting events. Gino was a constant presence at his sons’ BMX races, soccer, basketball, and football games, and even took on the role of baseball coach for several seasons.
In 1990, Gino embarked on a remarkable project, acquiring the historic Bittenbender house for just one dollar. He showed his ingenuity by removing the roof and interior walls, relocating the structure to 211 South Spring Street, where it was revitalized, showcasing his resourcefulness and determination.
Throughout his life, Gino was known for his quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and gentle humor. He had a profound love for his family and a special bond with all his dogs. His legacy is reflected in the values he instilled in his children and the memories they created together.
Gino will be remembered for his kindness, craftsmanship, and the love he shared so freely. As family and friends come together to celebrate his life, they take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with Diane and will be forever cherished in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the Empire Mortuary on November 22, 2025, from 13:00 to 16:00.
