Backup quarterback Russell Wilson of the New York Giants recently explored a historic Gilded Age mansion located on the Upper West Side, currently listed for $29.75 million. This price is significantly lower than its original asking price of $50 million in 2013. The search for a new residence follows Wilson’s signing of a one-year contract worth $10.5 million with the Giants earlier this month, after a single season with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Wilson’s transition to the Giants has been challenging, as he was benched following the team’s loss in the first three games of the current season. Despite the rocky start, he has found support from his wife, Ciara, and her network of celebrity friends. Ciara recently appeared on Apple Music’s “Level Up Radio,” sharing insights about Wilson’s active interest in her social life and interactions with friends like singer Kelly Rowland and actress La La Anthony.
The couple, who married in 2016, are parents to three children: Sienna Princess, aged 8; Amora Princess, aged 1; and their 5-year-old son, Win. Ciara also has an 11-year-old son, Future Zahir, from a previous relationship.
A Glimpse into the Mansion’s History
The limestone Beaux-Arts mansion at 349 W. 86th St. has been owned by Randall Jackson since 1999, when he purchased it for just $1.4 million and undertook a complete renovation. At the time of its acquisition, the property was in disrepair, lacking essential features such as stairs and a roof, and inhabited only by wildlife.
Prior to Jackson’s ownership, the mansion was linked to exiled Russian prince Sergei Belosselsky-Belozersky, who transformed it into a base for the House of Free Russia from the 1940s until the 1990s. The property, with a width of 25 feet and rising seven stories, boasts a remarkable landmarked facade characterized by Doric columns, Roman brick, and wrought iron balconies.
Originally developed by Joseph A. Farley and designed by Janes and Leo Architects around 1901, the facade received landmark status in 2020.
Luxurious Amenities and Features
Inside, the mansion offers a wealth of luxurious features, including eight fireplaces, an interior elevator, and outdoor spaces on nearly every level. A grand foyer welcomes visitors, while design elements such as high ceilings and abundant natural light create an inviting atmosphere.
For entertaining, the property includes formal living and dining areas, as well as a chef’s kitchen that opens to a terrace. Additional amenities encompass a screening room, multiple dens, and a home gym, alongside a stunning rooftop garden.
The mansion was listed for its current price of $29.75 million in April. The listing broker, Lydia Sussek of Douglas Elliman, opted not to comment on the potential sale. As Wilson considers this historic property, it marks a significant moment in his personal journey amidst the challenges of his professional career in the NFL.
