Three Arrested After Protest Turns Disruptive at Colorado Springs McDonald’s
Colorado Springs, Colo. — Police arrested three individuals Saturday evening after a demonstration outside a McDonald’s fast-food restaurant escalated, forcing the business to temporarily close.
The incident unfolded at approximately 7 p.m. near the McDonald’s located at the corner of North Academy and San Miguel Streets. Authorities were called after the group refused to leave private property and began obstructing customers and employees, raising safety concerns.
When officers arrived, they redirected the demonstrators to move onto the public sidewalk where they could continue their protest legally. However, the group defied police instructions and intensified the disturbance by blocking entrances and exits of the restaurant, as well as impeding pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the property.
“The group refused all attempts by police to communicate and began surrounding and blocking the public entrances/exits, as well as obstructing pedestrian and vehicle traffic on the private property,” a lieutenant with the Colorado Springs Police Department said. “Some participants began banging on vestibule doors/windows … Patrons and employees became fearful for their safety.”
After increased hostility towards officers and ongoing obstruction, law enforcement arrested three protesters on charges related to trespassing and interfering with police. The individuals taken into custody are identified as Jacob Ross Lesterud, Brandon Ean Rincon, and Frances Archuleta.
Following the arrests, the remaining demonstrators dispersed from the scene. Police did not provide details about the cause or purpose of the demonstration.
Immediate Impact and Safety Concerns
This incident underscores the challenges law enforcement faces when managing demonstrations that cross into disruptive territory, particularly on private property. The temporary closure of a busy fast-food location inconvenienced customers and heightened community tensions.
Authorities remain vigilant about maintaining public safety and upholding the rights to free speech while enforcing property laws statewide and nationwide. The Colorado Springs Police Department has indicated investigations are ongoing regarding the disorderly conduct.

Expect potential updates on charges against those arrested and any statements or responses from the demonstration organizers if forthcoming. Local businesses and law enforcement agencies across the US may review security and crowd control policies in response to similar protests.
Residents and travelers seeking quick service in public spaces are reminded to stay alert to safety announcements and respect property boundaries to avoid confrontations.
